Tips: How does a VFD work?
The AC grid power is converted into DC and then the DC is converted back into AC via electronic gates at the cycles and voltage needed to make the AC motor run at the desired speed. The controlling of these gates is done with an electronic controller that is powered from the variable frequency drive (VFD) using a switcher power supply.
Variable Frequency Drives can be used for a variety of things when it comes to induction motors. Example: soft starting, torque control, speed adjustment etc. These VFDs are able to control the speed of an induction motor using the electrical frequency. This VFD is expensive but surely do a lot more than traditional motor starters, in terms of monitoring and more controls.
